Redefinition Creative Remodelling
Redefinition Creative remodelling is an innovative architectural renovation project that exemplifies a sophisticated approach to mountain residential design, challenging traditional rustic typologies while maintaining contextual harmony. This Silver A' Design Award-winning project, conceived and executed by Helen Brasinika, represents a significant departure from conventional mountain house aesthetics through its thoughtful integration of materials and spatial planning. The design philosophy centers on the Marxist concept of commodity value, emphasizing the relationship between human labor and material transformation. The project encompasses a three-level structure, each floor spanning approximately 50 square meters, featuring a local stone shell for the lower and middle levels, complemented by a log cabin top floor. The design's distinctive characteristic lies in its on-site manufacturing approach, utilizing a carefully curated selection of materials including metal, pine wood, and mineral aggregates, with particular attention to sustainability and bioclimatic principles. The material palette employs black burnt metal and volcanic stone to create architectural drama, while maintaining minimal color contrast and low saturation to emphasize textural qualities. The spatial organization accommodates both private and communal areas, featuring en-suite bedrooms and flexible living spaces that support intergenerational cohabitation and varying seasonal uses. The project's innovative lighting scheme exclusively employs LED technology with low color temperatures, creatively addressing the constraints of existing openings while maximizing natural daylight. This comprehensive renovation, recognized by the A' Design Award competition, demonstrates excellence in sustainable architecture through its emphasis on local material sourcing, reduced VOC emissions, and consideration of building lifecycle and material reusability.
