Recovery Of El Pilar Orchard Housing Refurbishment

Recovery Of El Pilar Orchard Housing Refurbishment

Recovery of El Pilar Orchard Housing Refurbishment is a significant architectural restoration project that exemplifies thoughtful preservation and adaptive reuse of a 19th-century horticulturist dwelling. Located at the foot of Cruz mount, this historically significant structure comprises two diaphanous floors and a sloping roof, constructed with traditional stone walls and wooden flooring. The comprehensive renovation, completed in 2018, focused on structural consolidation while maintaining the building's original spatial clarity and historic character. The project's distinctive approach involved reinforcing the foundation, careful wall restoration, and the preservation of original floor levels to enhance the interior-exterior relationship. A notable feature of the refurbishment is the innovative water management system, which pays homage to the site's historical connection to the regional garden irrigation network. The exterior courtyard was thoughtfully redesigned with a stepped concrete wall that creates intimate garden spaces and incorporates a water feature, producing a serene auditory element that connects to the property's horticultural heritage. The renovation spans 139.86 square meters within a site area of 22,222 square meters, demonstrating exceptional space utilization while preserving the building's modest yet significant architectural heritage. This project, recognized with an Iron A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, showcases a masterful balance between structural preservation and contemporary functionality, establishing new standards for heritage building restoration while maintaining historical integrity.
