Rebirth Residence

Rebirth Residence

Rebirth Residence is an award-winning interior design project that exemplifies the harmonious fusion of retro-industrial aesthetics with sustainable design principles, completed in Taipei, Taiwan in 2018. This 82.64-square-meter residential renovation, designed by Chien-Hui Pai and Chun-Hung Yang, masterfully integrates vintage elements with modern functionality while preserving and repurposing original architectural features. The design philosophy centers on minimalistic expression and soft loft aesthetics, incorporating organic coatings to achieve a distinctive vintage, mottled appearance. The residence encompasses a master bedroom, two additional bedrooms, living and dining areas, and two bathrooms, all unified through a carefully curated material palette including Pandomo concrete, textured plaster, and hardwood flooring. Notable design elements include custom furniture crafted from reclaimed hardwood, demonstrating a commitment to environmental sustainability and resource conservation. The space is distinguished by its subtle chromatic scheme, indirect lighting, and thoughtful integration of the client's antique collection, creating an atmosphere that pays homage to 1950s design sensibilities while meeting contemporary living requirements. The project, which earned a Bronze A' Design Award in Interior Space and Exhibition Design, successfully overcame the technical challenges of renovating a 25-year-old structure by bridging traditional craftsmanship with modern construction methods, resulting in a cohesive design language that celebrates both preservation and innovation.
