Re-Lux Up-cycling Collection is an innovative fashion design project that exemplifies sustainable luxury through the creative transformation of household textile waste into sophisticated garments. This groundbreaking collection, designed by Chan Hung Kwong, encompasses six distinctive pieces that demonstrate the potential of up-cycling in high-end fashion design. The collection ingeniously repurposes various household textiles, including curtains, wallpaper, cabinet covers, and bed linens, employing sophisticated techniques such as zero-waste pattern cutting, minimal cut methodology, and rolling techniques to create three-dimensional, architecturally-inspired silhouettes. The collection features a sweep train evening gown with asymmetric smocking, an asymmetrically draped top, innovative pants incorporating protective fake leather elements, a sculptural jacket crafted from textile wallpaper, a zero-waste pleated maxi skirt, and a mermaid dress with distinctive rolled hem detailing. The design philosophy behind the collection addresses critical environmental concerns while challenging conventional perspectives on waste materials in fashion. This work, which earned recognition at the A' Design Award competition in the Fashion, Apparel and Garment Design category, represents a significant contribution to sustainable fashion design by demonstrating how discarded materials can be elevated into luxurious, wearable art pieces.
