Quietness Residence is an award-winning architectural interior design project completed in Shanghai, China, that masterfully embodies the principles of spatial harmony and tranquility through its innovative 1/3 and 2/3 proportional concept. This sophisticated residential space, designed by Shin-Yuan Fang and completed in 2014, spans 210 square meters and demonstrates an exceptional balance between public and private areas through its thoughtful spatial configuration. The design philosophy centers on creating a serene living environment for a frequent international traveler, emphasizing the pursuit of quietness as its primary objective. The interior architecture employs a refined material palette including Pandomo, wood, marble, iron, black brick, and cement, creating a sophisticated interplay of textures and surfaces. The color scheme predominantly features grey and white shades, carefully distributed according to the 1/3 proportional concept, which establishes a cohesive visual rhythm throughout the space. The design's distinctive approach to spatial organization ensures intrinsic connectivity between different areas while maintaining a clear delineation between public and private zones. The incorporation of a loft element serves as a fundamental architectural feature, while the use of virgin materials adds depth and layering to the space. The primitive simplicity of cement creates a compelling contrast with more refined elements, resulting in an atmosphere that embodies both calmness and elegance.
