Qinglong Ting Landscape Pavilion is an innovative architectural masterpiece situated in a rural village in Dangyang, Hubei, China, that exemplifies the harmonious integration of contemporary design with traditional communal spaces. Designed by acclaimed architect Cao Xiaomao and completed in January 2022, this Bronze A' Design Award-winning structure encompasses a site area of 1,350 square meters with a gross floor area of 316 square meters. The pavilion's distinctive design deconstructs conventional architectural elements into two primary components: a southward-sloping roof and a northward-inclining podium, creating a dynamic interplay between static and mobile viewing experiences. The structure employs a sophisticated steel and timber framework, featuring a 20-meter-long atrium within its 35-meter-long canopy, which preserves existing trees while optimizing natural light penetration. The pavilion's innovative design emerged from careful observation of local social patterns, particularly the cultural significance of 'lingering' in community spaces. Its architectural language responds to this cultural practice through enlarged porch areas and continuous eaves that facilitate various social activities. The structure's technical sophistication is evident in its series of inclined columns and elevated southern eave, creating an illusion of levitation while maintaining structural integrity. The project represents a significant advancement in public space design, transforming a previously private waterworks facility area into an accessible community gathering space, thereby contributing to suburban revitalization and enhanced living standards in agricultural communities.
