Purification Office

Purification Office is an innovative interior design project that exemplifies the harmonious fusion of Eastern and Western architectural elements while championing sustainable design principles. Located in Zhangjiagang, China, this 600-square-meter office space, designed by Zefeng Dong and Yichen Tong, masterfully incorporates recycled furniture factory wood as its main wall material, demonstrating a strong commitment to environmental consciousness in commercial design. The project's conceptual foundation draws inspiration from the traditional Chinese philosophical notion that the sky is round and the earth is square, manifesting this through thoughtful spatial arrangements and symbolic elements. The design features a striking contrast between Chinese arched marble pillars on the eastern side of the elevator hall and European Ionic columns on the western side, creating a powerful visual dialogue between cultural aesthetics. The space's sophisticated lighting design compensates for budget constraints by creating rich visual effects, while the central square rest area showcases a traditional Chinese landscape painting complete with a koi pond, symbolizing prosperity and advancement. The project, which earned a Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, demonstrates exceptional resourcefulness in material selection, utilizing light steel keels and galvanized water pipes in its construction. The design's success lies in its ability to balance aesthetic appeal with practical functionality while maintaining strong environmental and cultural considerations, setting a noteworthy example for sustainable office design in contemporary architecture.
