Progressive And Seclusive Residential Public Space
Progressive and Seclusive Residential Public Space is an innovative architectural interior design concept that reimagines traditional Chinese courtyard house principles for contemporary residential environments, created by design director Arthur Ho and his team. This sophisticated spatial design, which earned the prestigious Golden A' Design Award in Interior Space and Exhibition Design category, encompasses a three-dimensional public space configuration spanning 330 square meters, integrating a lobby, backyard, and cellar in a harmonious composition. The design's fundamental philosophy draws inspiration from the traditional Chinese quadrangle courtyard house typology, where multiple courtyards are interconnected to create a progressive sequence of spaces, each offering distinct atmospheric qualities and experiential rhythms. The architectural arrangement masterfully manipulates the interplay between solid and void, light and shadow, creating a flowing ambiance that guides residents through carefully orchestrated transitions. The two-story backyard serves as a central open space, featuring natural illumination and verdant vegetation, effectively connecting the lobby and cellar spaces. The lobby area is characterized by its intentionally subdued lighting scheme, incorporating natural cut stone slabs and teak wood finishes that extend to the ceiling, while the bar area is defined by iron rust-colored steel and solid wood elements within a ㄇ-shaped frame finished with metallic paint. This thoughtful material palette, including wood, metal, marble, and stone, contributes to creating a sophisticated atmosphere that provides a tranquil retreat for residents. The design's progressive linear movement pattern, completed between March 2014 and February 2016 in Taipei, demonstrates exceptional expertise in managing the intricate balance between open and enclosed pathways, illuminated and dimmed spaces, and the subtle interweaving of tangible and intangible realms that culminate in a unique residential journey.
