Pride Shrike Mascot Design
Pride Shrike Mascot Design is an innovative mascot design that revolutionizes the visual representation of Pingtung County's athletic spirit through a thoughtfully crafted avian character. Created by designer Meng Chih Chiang and team, this mascot represents a significant departure from traditional monkey-themed mascots previously associated with the region, instead drawing inspiration from the Brown Shrike, a bird native to Pingtung County. The design, which won the Bronze A' Design Award in the Advertising, Marketing and Communication Design category, demonstrates exceptional attention to ornithological detail, developed in collaboration with the Endemic Species Research Institute to accurately capture the distinctive features of the Brown Shrike, including its characteristic white face, black bandit-mask eye markings, reddish upper parts, and white-tipped tail. The mascot's design seamlessly integrates into various sporting activities, effectively communicating athletic dynamism while maintaining scientific accuracy. Implemented both in graphic and three-dimensional formats, the design adheres to strict technical specifications for animated sticker applications, including precise dimensional constraints and frame limitations. The mascot's personality was carefully developed to resonate with its target audience, particularly young athletes aged 12-18, incorporating contemporary communication styles and local cultural elements. The design's significance extends beyond its aesthetic appeal, serving as a cultural ambassador that promotes local tourism and economic interests while representing the sporting spirit of the 2020 National High School Athletic Games. This innovative approach to mascot design demonstrates how traditional elements can be reimagined through contemporary design practices to create meaningful and engaging visual identities.
