Pre-recorded Discs

Pre-recorded discs, also known as optical discs, are a type of storage medium that use laser technology to read and write data. These discs are typically made of polycarbonate plastic and are coated with a reflective material, such as aluminum. Pre-recorded discs are commonly used for storing and distributing various types of digital media, including music, movies, software, and video games. One of the most popular types of pre-recorded discs is the Compact Disc (CD). CDs were first introduced in the early 1980s and quickly became a popular way to store and distribute music. CDs have a storage capacity of up to 700 megabytes (MB) and can hold up to 80 minutes of audio. Another popular type of pre-recorded disc is the Digital Versatile Disc (DVD), which was introduced in the late 1990s. DVDs have a storage capacity of up to 8.5 gigabytes (GB) and can hold up to 4 hours of video. Pre-recorded discs are read using a laser beam that reflects off the reflective layer of the disc. The laser beam is able to detect changes in the reflective layer, which correspond to the digital data stored on the disc. The data is then decoded and played back as audio, video, or software. While pre-recorded discs were once the primary way to store and distribute digital media, they have largely been replaced by digital downloads and streaming services. However, pre-recorded discs are still used in certain industries, such as the music and movie industries, and are still popular among collectors.
