Pre-recorded Digital Video Disks

Pre-recorded digital video disks, commonly known as DVDs, are a type of optical storage media used for the storage and distribution of digital video content. DVDs were introduced in the late 1990s as a successor to VHS tapes, and quickly became the dominant format for home video entertainment. DVDs are similar in appearance to compact discs (CDs), but have a higher storage capacity and use a different type of laser to read and write data. A standard DVD can hold up to 4.7 gigabytes (GB) of data, which is enough to store a feature-length movie in high-quality video and audio. DVDs can also support additional content such as menus, subtitles, and bonus features, making them a popular choice for home video releases. DVDs are compatible with a wide range of DVD players and computer DVD drives, making them a versatile and accessible format for consumers. In addition to standard DVDs, there are several other types of pre-recorded digital video disks available. Dual-layer DVDs can hold up to 8.5 GB of data by using two layers of data on a single disc. Blu-ray discs, introduced in the mid-2000s, offer even higher storage capacity and support for high-definition video and advanced audio formats. Despite the rise of digital streaming services, pre-recorded digital video disks remain a popular format for consumers who prefer physical media and higher-quality video and audio.
