Pre-programmed Discs

Pre-programmed discs, also known as pre-recorded discs, are optical storage media that contain data that has been recorded onto them before they are sold. These discs are commonly used for distributing music, movies, software, and other types of digital content. Unlike recordable discs, pre-programmed discs cannot be erased or rewritten, and their contents are fixed. Pre-programmed discs are created using a process called mastering, which involves creating a master disc that contains the data to be replicated onto multiple copies. This master disc is then used to create a stamper, which is used to press the data onto the surface of the pre-programmed discs. This process ensures that each copy of the disc is identical to the original master. One of the main advantages of pre-programmed discs is their durability. Since the data is physically etched onto the surface of the disc, it is not susceptible to damage from scratches or other physical wear and tear. Additionally, pre-programmed discs can be produced in large quantities at a relatively low cost, making them an efficient means of distributing digital content. Despite their advantages, pre-programmed discs have some limitations. Since the data on these discs is fixed, they cannot be updated or modified after they are produced. This means that if errors are discovered in the content, or if updates or revisions are needed, new discs must be produced. Additionally, pre-programmed discs are not suitable for use as backup media, since they cannot be rewritten.
