Portable Lap Desk Installation No.1 Multi-functional Desk

Portable Lap Desk Installation No.1 Multi-functional Desk

Portable Lap Desk Installation No.1 Multi-functional desk is an innovative furniture design solution that exemplifies the convergence of functionality, portability, and space efficiency in contemporary living spaces. Created by British designer Liyang Liu, this versatile piece features a minimalist aesthetic and dual-purpose functionality, allowing it to serve both as a wall-mounted workstation and a portable lap desk. The design, which earned a Silver A' Design Award in the Furniture Design category, incorporates eco-conscious materials, specifically utilizing 3-ply solid bamboo for the main surface and powder-coated steel for its mounting brackets. The desk's dimensions of 56cm x 35cm x 2cm are carefully calculated to provide an optimal workspace while maintaining portability. A distinctive feature of the design is its innovative groove that spans the entire desktop, functioning as a universal device stand compatible with both left-handed and right-handed users. The wall-mounting system enables the desk to be stored flat against the wall when not in use, addressing contemporary space constraints in urban living environments. The design philosophy behind this piece emphasizes focused work by intentionally limiting desk space to essential items, thereby promoting concentration and productivity. The construction process combines precision CNC cutting technology with hand-finished details, including careful sanding and oil treatment of the bamboo surface, resulting in a refined and durable product that balances craftsmanship with modern manufacturing techniques.
