Polygon House Residential Architecture is an innovative residential structure designed by architect Ioannis Panagiotou, exemplifying contemporary architectural principles through its distinctive geometric composition and thoughtful integration with its challenging hillside setting. Located 350 meters above sea level on the island of Skiathos, Greece, this Bronze A' Design Award-winning project masterfully addresses the complexities of building on a steep slope while maximizing panoramic sea views. The design is characterized by its broken geometries and complex polygonal plan, which creates a deliberate interplay of volumes that appear random but are meticulously calculated to ensure unobstructed views from every vantage point. The two-level structure functions effectively as two independent living spaces, featuring a night zone with office space on the upper level and an open-plan day zone with additional bedrooms on the ground floor. The building's architectural language emphasizes clean lines and industrial materials, including concrete, local stone, and frameless glass railings, which contribute to its modern aesthetic while respecting traditional local architecture. Notable features include a double-height living area, extensive glazing that spans the exterior walls, and thoughtfully designed outdoor spaces including a swimming pool and shaded areas created by a protruding triangular volume. The project, completed in 2020, demonstrates exceptional spatial organization and environmental consideration, with its orientation on the north-south axis and southeast-facing main facade optimizing natural light and views while maintaining functionality and user comfort.
