Developed between 2018 and 2019 in Beijing and Guangzhou, China, this design project represents a sophisticated interpretation of contemporary toy culture aimed at teenagers and young professionals. The collection features meticulously crafted figurines, each measuring 50mm in width, depth, and height, manufactured using a combination of PVC and ABS materials, with select editions featuring electroplated finishes for enhanced visual appeal. The design philosophy behind Plutus Spacemen Toys centers on the concept of universal prosperity, cleverly integrating the wealth-bringing symbolism of Plutus, the God of wealth, with space exploration themes. The retro-inspired design aesthetic incorporates twentieth-century elements while making bold, avant-garde choices in color combinations and finishing techniques. Each piece in the collection is characterized by its attention to detail in the spacesuit design, which maintains authentic technical elements while incorporating whimsical feline features. The project, recognized with a Silver A' Design Award in the Toys, Games and Hobby Products Design category in 2020, demonstrates exceptional innovation in toy design through its unique cultural synthesis and manufacturing excellence.
