Playtime Fashion; Interactive Clothing
Playtime Fashion; interactive clothing is an innovative fusion of haute couture and interactive technology, representing a groundbreaking advancement in responsive fashion design. Created by fashion designer Ying Gao in collaboration with robotics expert Simon Laroche, this sophisticated collection comprises two distinct garments that actively respond to photographic capture attempts, creating a unique interplay between fashion and digital media. The pieces, crafted from super organza (recognized as the world's lightest fabric) and PVDF textile, incorporate micro motors, light sensors, and Arduino technology to achieve their transformative capabilities. When exposed to camera flashes or recording devices, the garments undergo a deliberate metamorphosis - the first piece appears deliberately blurred, while the second transforms into a light source upon flash photography. This dynamic response challenges traditional fashion documentation methods and explores the relationship between clothing, spectator, and environment. Inspired by Jacques Tati's cinematographic work, the design deliberately engages with themes of perception, surveillance, and architectural space in modern society. The technical innovation lies in its adjustable structure, which transcends conventional garment construction by incorporating interactive technologies that enable multiple configurations. The dresses, measuring 110 cm x 75 cm x 5 cm and 90 cm x 75 cm x 10 cm respectively, represent a significant achievement in experimental modular construction. The project, which earned the prestigious Silver A' Design Award in the Fashion, Apparel and Garment Design category, demonstrates exceptional innovation in its integration of electronic and digital technologies within fashion design, establishing new possibilities for garment interaction and perception.
