Play and Swim Swimming Center is an innovative aquatic facility specifically designed for pre-school children, particularly those aged 0-3 years, that seamlessly integrates educational, cultural, artistic, and athletic functions. Located in the basement of Taipei Arena, this 700-square-foot facility represents a sophisticated approach to early childhood aquatic development through its thoughtful architectural and interior design elements. The space is characterized by its professional-grade swimming facilities combined with carefully curated aesthetic elements that maintain a childlike atmosphere without appearing childish. The design, created by Han Lee and Zhang Zhuang-Min, features abstract wallpaper decorations utilizing silhouettes against light to create forest, animal, and sky motifs, encouraging visual thinking and imagination in young visitors. The facility's innovative features include an L-shaped grille corridor that maximizes natural daylight, sound stage sliding doors for flexible space configuration, and specialized design elements such as curved lines resembling smiling faces at the entrance and inlaid mental silver wires creating wave-like patterns. The center incorporates cation warm water systems specifically designed to protect sensitive infant skin, along with ergonomically designed fixtures at various heights to accommodate both children and adults. The project, which was completed in December 2015 after ten months of development, overcame significant technical challenges related to pipeline arrangement and boiler placement within the existing structure. This exceptional design earned recognition with a Silver A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, acknowledging its outstanding contribution to specialized childhood aquatic facilities.
