Platband
Platband is an architectural term referring to a flat, rectangular molding or trim that frames windows, doors, or walls. Typically made of wood, plaster, or other materials, platbands serve both decorative and functional purposes. Aesthetically, they provide a visual frame, accentuating the opening or wall and contributing to the overall architectural style of the building. Functionally, platbands help to conceal the joint between the wall and the door or window frame, providing a neat, finished appearance. The design of platbands can vary significantly depending on the architectural style, ranging from simple, unadorned strips in minimalist designs to intricately carved or molded pieces in more ornate styles such as Neoclassical or Baroque architecture. Platbands are often used in conjunction with other architectural elements like cornices, pilasters, or pediments to create a cohesive, stylistically consistent design. The term platband can also refer to similar flat, rectangular moldings used in furniture design, particularly in the context of door and drawer frames.
