Pingshan Cultural Cluster Book Mall Bookstore is an innovative architectural and interior design project that exemplifies the harmonious fusion of traditional Hakka cultural elements with contemporary retail space design. Located in Shenzhen's Pingshan District, this 6,472.5-square-meter establishment represents a groundbreaking approach to modern bookstore design, drawing inspiration from the region's historic Hakka enclosed houses. The design concept ingeniously divides the space into distinct Square and Round zones, each serving specific demographic needs while maintaining cultural authenticity. The square zone, oriented towards young people, features a central activity area surrounded by carefully planned spaces, incorporating elements inspired by traditional Diaolou tower buildings, enhanced by mirror-finished ceilings that create an infinite visual extension. The round zone, designed for families and children, employs curved layouts and flowing spaces, highlighted by a striking white spiral staircase and artistic lighting installations that create an immersive, star-like atmosphere. The project, completed in April 2020, showcases innovative solutions to modern retail challenges through its Product + Space combined model, integrating multiple functional scenes including reading, leisure, and social interaction. The design earned recognition with a Gold A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, acknowledging its exceptional achievement in cultural preservation and modern spatial innovation. Notable features include the integration of salvaged wooden doors and windows from local historic buildings, their textures carefully preserved and transferred onto cement walls, creating a dialogue between past and present.
