Pine Lobby is an award-winning architectural interior design project that exemplifies the harmonious fusion of traditional Chinese cultural elements with contemporary Western design aesthetics. Located in Beijing's Zhongguancun Science Park, this 800-square-meter lobby space is distinguished by its innovative interpretation of Mount Huangshan's iconic welcome-pine motif, rendered through sophisticated mirror stainless steel columns and beams. The design, conceived by Yiming Li in collaboration with team members Xiang Lv and Chao Fei Shi, transforms structural elements into sculptural art pieces that symbolically welcome visitors and staff. The space features meticulously crafted details including Italian vitrified tiles embedded with Traditional Chinese Ink Painting impressions, creating a seamless blend of Eastern and Western artistic sensibilities. The technical sophistication of the project is evident in its use of 3D printing technology for precise fabrication of large-scale mirror stainless steel components, while practical considerations are addressed through perforated metallic panels for acoustic optimization and an efficient radiant heating system beneath the floor. The design, completed in March 2017, garnered international recognition with a Golden A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, acknowledging its exceptional achievement in spatial innovation, cultural integration, and technical execution. The project's success lies in its ability to create a modern art atmosphere while maintaining functional efficiency, demonstrated through thoughtful material selections that minimize maintenance costs while maximizing aesthetic impact.
