Peter Roehr

Peter Roehr (1944-1968) was a German artist who made significant contributions to the neo-avant-garde movement. Roehr is best known for his experimental films, which were characterized by their use of repetition, fragmentation, and abstraction. He was a pioneer in the use of Super 8 technology, which allowed him to create short, looped films that explored the relationship between image and sound. Roehr's films were often accompanied by soundtracks that he created himself, using found sounds and electronic music. In addition to his films, Roehr also created sculptures and installations that explored similar themes. His sculptures were often made from everyday objects such as light bulbs, mirrors, and plastic bags, which he arranged in repetitive patterns. These works were intended to challenge the viewer's perception of space and time, and to question the role of the artist in shaping meaning. Roehr's work was highly influential in the German art scene of the 1960s, and he was considered a leader of the neo-avant-garde movement. His innovative use of media and his exploration of the relationship between the artist and the audience continue to inspire artists today.
