Peter Agostini

Peter Agostini, (1913-1993) was an American sculptor and painter, known primarily for abstract works. His use of simplified forms, bold colors and gestural brushstrokes focus on expressing emotions, creating a visual impact often associated with Abstract Expressionism. His best-known sculptures are the large-scale bronze figures he created in the 1950s and 1960s. These often presented a combination of both male and female forms, in constant movement and with a sense of grace and beauty. An example of this is Untitled I, which features a female figure with her leg raised and her arms extended outward, seemingly in dance. Among Agostini's other works are his abstract paintings, such as his 1954 painting titled Red Sky, which features a background of vibrant colors and paints applied in dynamic, sweeping strokes.
