Petalis Sound Amplifier is an innovative acoustic wall-mounted installation that combines decorative aesthetics with sound amplification functionality, designed by Ismail Gunes Otken. This sophisticated piece of furniture design consists of six precisely engineered aluminum leaves of varying dimensions, each strategically angled to optimize sound reflection and amplification within interior spaces. The system draws inspiration from concert hall acoustics and historical acoustic mirrors, translating these principles into a residential scale solution. Each leaf component features specific measurements ranging from 210x390mm to 480x280mm, with individual weights varying between 1.5 to 2.7 kilograms, all manufactured through a meticulous casting process with 10mm thickness. The design addresses the growing integration of sound systems in modern homes while offering an elegant solution to interior acoustic inefficiencies. Its innovative approach to sound direction and amplification earned recognition with a Silver A' Design Award in the Furniture Design category, acknowledging its contribution to both functional and aesthetic aspects of interior design. The system operates through careful positioning of its leaf components in a circular arrangement, with each piece mounted using a specialized holder mechanism featuring a shrink-fit connection secured by rubber gaskets to prevent unwanted vibration. The design's effectiveness lies in its ability to gather and focus reflected sound waves into a concentrated area, effectively creating a home theater-like acoustic experience while serving as an artistic wall installation.
