Pet Treats Studio
Pet Treats Studio is an innovative architectural renovation project that transformed a dilapidated 1960s house into a specialized facility dedicated to pet treat creation and animal interaction. Located in Taiwan, this 80-square-meter space exemplifies thoughtful adaptive reuse through its seamless integration of indoor and outdoor environments. The design philosophy centers on creating a harmonious connection with nature while preserving the historical essence of the original structure. Distinguished by its innovative approach to spatial design, the studio features an open-wall concept that promotes natural ventilation and lighting, complemented by oversized glass windows that optimize interior illumination. The project, completed in 2018, incorporates sustainable design principles through the creative reuse of original materials, including recycled bricks and stones that were repurposed to construct courtyard walls, maintaining a tangible link to the building's heritage. The interior space is thoughtfully divided into three primary zones: a work area, multi-purpose space, and lounge, all unified by a sophisticated material palette including white painted iron, glass, epoxy, and self-leveling cement. The design's excellence was recognized with an Iron A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, acknowledging its outstanding contribution to adaptive reuse architecture. The studio's innovative features include nature-inspired seating arrangements, enhanced by comfortable cushions and blankets that create a welcoming atmosphere, while careful attention to waterproofing and drainage addresses Taiwan's humid climate conditions. Designer Jen-Chuan Chang's vision successfully transforms what was once a ruins into a vibrant, functional space that serves both commercial and social purposes, demonstrating how thoughtful design can breathe new life into abandoned structures.
