PeriO Multifunctional Compass

PeriO Multifunctional Compass

PeriO Multifunctional Compass is an innovative drawing instrument that revolutionizes the traditional compass design by incorporating advanced functionality and enhanced user safety features. This sophisticated tool, designed by Huiqi Jia and Yunsong Liu, represents a significant advancement in art and stationery supplies design, distinguished by its ability to independently determine and display radius measurements while facilitating the creation of circles, arcs, and straight lines with precision. The device's aluminum construction ensures lightweight durability, while strategic implementation of silicone components in the center, pen contact areas, and wheels provides optimal friction control. Measuring 45mm in width, 21mm in depth, and 5.5mm in height, this compact instrument features a unique disc-based system that displays radius measurements and enables smooth rotational movement during circle creation. The design's innovative approach to geometric drawing is inspired by computer-aided design software, specifically incorporating principles from perimeter circle commands and the mathematical foundations of three-point circle determination. The tool's versatility is enhanced by its silicone pen holder, which accommodates writing instruments of varying sizes, while its integrated measurement system allows users to calculate line lengths and arc angles through wheel rotation. This groundbreaking design, which earned a Bronze A' Design Award in the Art and Stationery Supplies Design category, addresses traditional compass limitations by eliminating the need for separate measurement tools and incorporating safety features that protect users from sharp points typically associated with conventional compasses.
