People's Diary Experience Center Exhibition Classroom Hotel is an innovative architectural complex located at the entrance of Yahuang Village in Shengzhou city, Zhejiang Province, China, designed by Dr. Kefeng Sun and recognized with a Silver A' Design Award in Architecture, Building and Structure Design. This multifunctional facility, completed in 2023, masterfully integrates exhibition spaces, classrooms, and hospitality services within a 15,240-square-meter development that harmoniously responds to its rural context. The design's distinctive approach involves fragmenting the building mass into slender strips arranged irregularly across the 9,280-square-meter site, creating a sophisticated interplay of built form and negative space that references traditional Chinese courtyard architecture. The complex features sloping roofs that echo the layered topography of the surrounding mountains, while numerous internal courtyards facilitate natural ventilation and create meaningful connections between interior and exterior spaces. The project's cultural significance is deeply rooted in its function as a commemorative space for the People's Diary movement, which originated in Yahuang Village, serving as both an exhibition center and a practical facility for government personnel and visitors. The architectural composition demonstrates exceptional sensitivity to its context through its careful consideration of scale, materiality, and spatial organization, while the innovative use of interconnected strips allows for the integration of tall spaces and varied programs within a high-density development that maintains a harmonious relationship with its rural surroundings.
