People's Daily HQ Office is a remarkable architectural masterpiece located in Beijing's Central Business District, representing a significant departure from conventional skyscraper design through its innovative curved form and cultural symbolism. The 179.7-meter-tall structure, completed in 2015, encompasses 33 floors above ground and 3 below, with a total gross floor area of 88,856 square meters. Its distinctive design, conceived by ZHOU Qi Studio, draws inspiration from traditional Chinese philosophy of Tian yuan di fang and the Chinese character for People, manifesting in a triangular plan that transforms into a fluid, streamlined form created by intersecting an ellipsoid with three hyperboloids. The building's exterior features a sophisticated curved glass curtain wall system utilizing movable joints that allow for standard-sized glass panels to conform to the organic shape, while traditional glazed terracotta, reminiscent of ancient Chinese temple roofs, covers the external support structure using high-strength cables for earthquake resistance. The structure's engineering incorporates three-angle spatial trusses working in conjunction with its elevator core, demonstrating advanced technological solutions for seismic stability.
