PeeFence Flexible Urinal

PeeFence Flexible Urinal

PeeFence Flexible Urinal is an innovative sanitation solution designed specifically for outdoor events and festivals, addressing the persistent challenge of improper urination at public gatherings. This groundbreaking design consists of a 1mm thick LDPE geomembrane that can be easily folded and mounted on existing fence structures, creating an efficient and hygienic urinal system. The design's primary innovation lies in its remarkable simplicity and functionality, featuring a water jet-cut membrane measuring 1130mm in width and approximately 900mm in height when installed. The system's ingenious folding mechanism creates a practical trough that effectively channels waste through a simple drainpipe to appropriate disposal locations such as septic tanks or sewers. This social design innovation, which earned a Golden A' Design Award in the Social Design category, represents a significant advancement in temporary sanitation infrastructure. Its lightweight and compact nature when unfolded enables efficient transportation and storage, while the straightforward installation process requiring only four plastic strips makes it highly practical for large-scale deployment. The design emerged from extensive field research and user behavior studies at music festivals, where the proximity of sanitation facilities was identified as a crucial factor in preventing inappropriate urination behaviors. The solution's cost-effectiveness is achieved through its minimalist construction, utilizing primarily a single piece of geomembrane and standard components, while its durability ensures reliable performance in challenging outdoor environments. The design's impact extends beyond mere functionality, addressing significant public health and social concerns at mass gatherings while demonstrating how thoughtful design can effectively solve complex social challenges through simple, scalable solutions.
