Parallel Bars For Gymnastics

Parallel bars are a piece of gymnastics equipment used in both men's and women's artistic gymnastics. They consist of two parallel bars, made of wood or composite material, which are supported by a metal frame. The bars are typically 1.8 meters long and 4 centimeters in diameter, and are positioned approximately 42 centimeters apart. The height of the bars can be adjusted to accommodate the height of the gymnast. The parallel bars require a great deal of upper body strength, as well as balance and coordination. Gymnasts use a variety of skills on the parallel bars, including swings, handstands, and various types of turns and releases. One of the most impressive skills performed on the parallel bars is the double somersault dismount, in which the gymnast releases both bars and performs two somersaults before landing on the mat. The parallel bars have been a part of men's gymnastics since the early 20th century, and were added to the women's program in the 1950s. They are considered one of the most challenging events in gymnastics, and require a great deal of practice and dedication to master.
