Para Public Outdoor Garden Chair

Para Public Outdoor Garden Chair

Para Public Outdoor Garden Chair is an innovative outdoor furniture design that revolutionizes public seating through its unique approach to flexibility and interaction. Created by award-winning designer Mian Wei, this distinctive set of chairs challenges traditional seating conventions through its symmetrical form and unconventional balance distribution. The design, which earned a Silver A' Design Award in the Furniture Design category, comprises two variants: Para A, featuring 360-degree rotational capability, and Para B, supporting bidirectional flipping. Both models incorporate a deliberately weighted bottom structure, enabling controlled mobility while maintaining stability in outdoor settings. Constructed from bent polycarbonate sheets supported by steel and polyethylene legs, the chair's dimensions measure 620mm x 1200mm x 820mm. The aesthetic inspiration draws from natural elements such as pollen and flying seeds, resulting in a bold, modern form that encourages social interaction in public spaces. The design's innovative approach to weight distribution creates an extremely low center of gravity, addressing the common limitation of fixed or immobile public furniture while enabling users to adjust their viewing direction and seating arrangement effortlessly. This versatility makes it particularly suitable for parks, gardens, and other public outdoor spaces where flexible seating arrangements can enhance social interaction and user experience. The chair's development involved extensive research into optimal shape and balance for ergonomics, resulting in a unique symmetrical structure that deviates from conventional chair design principles while maintaining functionality and safety.
