Paper Ceramic Poster is an innovative visual communication design project that masterfully integrates Chinese calligraphy with contemporary poster design to explore and express the contrasting properties of paper and ceramics. Created by designers Yao Jingui, Huang Xiaoqing, and Yang Chao in 2018, this sophisticated series of posters measures 700mm x 1000mm and employs a comprehensive range of techniques including manual production, photography, and computer synthesis to achieve its distinctive aesthetic impact. The design concept uniquely leverages Chinese characters to articulate the fundamental contrast between the soft nature of paper and the hard characteristics of ceramics, incorporating elements from traditional Chinese landscape painting with ceramic glaze production processes. The execution involves collaboration with professional calligraphers for authentic text rendering, while the ceramic glaze effects are achieved through an innovative process of mixing materials with water on glass surfaces. This artistic endeavor represents a significant contribution to cross-cultural design dialogue, effectively bridging Chinese ceramic and paper cultural heritage with contemporary visual communication methodologies. The project, which earned recognition with an Iron A' Design Award in the Graphics, Illustration and Visual Communication Design category, demonstrates exceptional technical excellence in its synthesis of traditional and modern design elements. The posters serve both as functional communication tools and as cultural artifacts, suitable for display in public spaces while conveying deep cultural significance through their thoughtful integration of materials, techniques, and visual language.
