Palette Table Table is an innovative furniture design that reimagines the traditional Japanese Chabudai concept through a contemporary lens, created by Japanese designer Misaki Kiyuna. This low-profile table, recognized with an Iron A' Design Award in the Furniture Design category, features a distinctive palette-inspired form characterized by overlapping circular elements that create an ergonomic and multifunctional surface. Crafted from oak wood with dimensions of 1440mm x 846mm x 340mm, the design incorporates three interconnected circular depressions that serve both aesthetic and functional purposes. The largest depression functions as a designated seating area, while two smaller curved lines guide users and foster intimacy in the space. The table's thoughtful design enables users to work from multiple angles - front, left, and right - while maintaining proper posture through its body-conforming curved surfaces. A notable feature is its rotating bottom plate and a strategic hole in the top surface, which facilitates storage access and promotes interactive engagement. This design, which emerged from a response to changing lifestyle patterns and the impact of the global pandemic, successfully bridges traditional Japanese floor-sitting culture with contemporary needs. The table's versatile design makes it suitable for various settings, including Japanese-style rooms, libraries, children's spaces, and resort hotels, demonstrating its adaptability to both traditional and modern contexts. The project, developed between June and October 2023, represents a harmonious blend of functional innovation and cultural preservation, embodying Japanese aesthetic principles while addressing modern lifestyle requirements.
