P.R Lounge Chair Lounge Chair

P.R Lounge Chair Lounge Chair is an exemplary piece of contemporary furniture design that masterfully combines traditional craftsmanship with modern aesthetics, created by Portuguese designer Alexandre Caldas. This distinguished lounge chair, which earned the Golden A' Design Award in the Furniture Design category, represents a sophisticated reinterpretation of classic Portuguese furniture design principles. The chair's distinctive feature lies in its elongated lines stretched to their structural limits, creating a harmonious balance between visual elegance and ergonomic comfort. Crafted from premium American Walnut and Ash woods, the chair showcases a thoughtful material selection that highlights the natural beauty and distinct properties of each wood variety. Measuring 1005 mm x 635 mm x 705 mm, the design emerged from an extensive development process spanning from 2016 to 2018, incorporating both traditional and contemporary production methods, including charcoal sketching, handcrafted prototyping, 3D modeling, and CNC manufacturing. The chair's construction presented significant technical challenges, particularly in achieving structural integrity while maintaining its distinctive angles and inclinations. Its design philosophy emphasizes the creation of an emotional connection with users, offering a protective embrace when seated while maintaining visual lightness. The innovative construction method, which includes carefully calculated angles converging into a cone shape, contributes to its exceptional comfort and stability. This piece represents a culmination of 25 years of design evolution, embodying a perfect synthesis of artistic vision and technical expertise in furniture craftsmanship.
