Oswaldo Guayasamín
Oswaldo Guayasamín is considered one of the most important South American artists of the twentieth century. He was an Ecuadorian painter and sculptor whose work depicted the marginalization and suffering of the indigenous and mestizo people of Ecuador and Latin America. Notable works of Guayasamín include his haunting Tribute to the Poor, the Tribute to Leon Trotsky and the series of murals in the chapel of El Panecillo in Quito. Guayasamín's art was often political and he was not afraid to speak out against the oppressive regimes of his time.
