ORRO Bus exchange system is an innovative public transportation solution designed to revolutionize passenger exchange at bus stations, particularly during peak hours. This sophisticated system, developed by designers Ding Jian, Cao Weizhi, and Ji Zexu, features a unique architectural and mechanical approach where both the bus and station platform incorporate matching semicircular structures that work in tandem. When the bus arrives at its designated position, these semicircular spaces align to form a complete cylinder, which then rotates 180 degrees to facilitate rapid passenger exchange. This ingenious design reduces the traditional bus stop duration from several minutes to approximately 15 seconds, significantly improving urban transit efficiency. The system incorporates advanced signaling technology for precise docking, with each bus equipped with two semicircular spaces and stations featuring four such spaces. The design, which won the Bronze A' Design Award in the Vehicle, Mobility and Transportation Design category, addresses critical urban mobility challenges through its innovative approach to passenger flow management. With a semicircle space diameter of 3 meters, the system optimizes spatial efficiency while maintaining practical functionality. The ORRO system's operation follows a structured sequence where passengers pre-position themselves in designated waiting areas before the bus arrives, enabling a synchronized exchange process that minimizes congestion and maximizes throughput at busy transit hubs.
