Origami Science Reception Center is an innovative architectural project that exemplifies the harmonious fusion of traditional paper-folding aesthetics with modern spatial design principles. Located in the Zhongshan District of Taipei City, this 208-square-meter reception center, designed by Jheng-Syuan Hong, represents a groundbreaking approach to commercial space design through its interpretation of origami principles in architectural form. The structure, completed in March 2022, features three distinct sections - a project introduction area, reception area, and sample house area - interconnected through thoughtfully designed circulation spaces. The building's exterior is characterized by its pure white facade, constructed using semi-painted PVC pipes that simulate the delicate folds of paper, while the interior showcases sophisticated material choices including artificial terrazzo tiles and honeycomb paper cabinetry. The design's most distinctive feature is its innovative approach to natural lighting, achieved through strategic placement of light-transmitting facades and expanded mesh elements that create a seamless connection with the adjacent park environment. The project, which earned a Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, masterfully integrates Chinese paper-cut arts from the site's previous structure, creating a meaningful bridge between historical context and contemporary design. The five-meter-high ceilings and partition-free design maximize natural light penetration, while the curved architectural elements and ambient lighting solutions create an atmosphere that reflects the lightness and purity of folded paper.
