Origami Ark Show Room

Origami Ark Show Room

Origami Ark Show room is an innovative architectural and interior design project that revolutionizes the concept of leather product exhibition spaces, located in Himeji, Japan. This remarkable showroom, designed by Tetsuya Matsumoto and completed in 2015, masterfully addresses the challenge of displaying over 3,000 leather products within a confined space through an ingenious three-dimensional maze composition. The design seamlessly integrates Japanese origami principles with contemporary industrial aesthetics, featuring 83 modular units measuring 1.5x1.5x2 meters each, arranged in an irregular pattern to create an immersive exploration experience. The exterior architecture employs metallic structures to achieve sharp, origami-inspired angles, while maintaining cost-effectiveness and structural integrity. The interior space utilizes a sophisticated system of four distinct unit types - hangers, shelves, tables, and drawers - constructed with 100x100mm metallic frames, complemented by warm OSB wood panels on the walls. This Gold A' Design Award-winning project, recognized in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, demonstrates exceptional spatial innovation within its 430-square-meter footprint. The design successfully merges traditional craftsmanship with futuristic architectural elements, creating a dynamic environment that transforms the conventional showroom experience into an engaging journey reminiscent of exploring a jungle gym, while effectively showcasing the extensive range of leather products through its carefully orchestrated spatial arrangement and natural lighting solutions.
