Opening House Private Residence is an innovative architectural masterpiece located in Athens' eastern suburbs, specifically designed to maximize spatial efficiency on a challenging narrow, sloped plot. This four-story residential structure, completed in 2016, represents a remarkable fusion of functional design and playful aesthetics, drawing inspiration from pop culture elements such as Star Wars and the Rubik's Cube. The building's distinctive triangular shape emerges from a clever architectural solution where the north facade pivots westward to optimize natural light exposure, creating a dramatic three-floor atrium that serves as the home's central feature. The residence, spanning 250 square meters, demonstrates exceptional vertical planning with each level serving specific functions: the ground and first floors accommodate living spaces with direct landscape access, the second floor houses bedrooms and a playroom, while the top floor features the master bedroom connected to a roof terrace. The structure's unique design language is emphasized through its bold use of Rubik's Cube-inspired colors, with an orange atrium radiating warmth throughout the interior spaces, complemented by a thoughtful distribution of blue, green, red, and yellow elements. The building's technical achievements include custom-designed floating staircases, innovative steel structures, and strategic placement of windows to enhance natural illumination. This architectural achievement, recognized with a Silver A' Design Award in the Architecture, Building and Structure Design category, showcases the successful integration of challenging site constraints with creative spatial solutions, resulting in a distinctive contemporary residence that harmoniously balances functionality with artistic expression.
