Open and Close Residential House is an innovative residential interior design project that exemplifies the harmonious integration of flexible living spaces through sophisticated architectural elements. Located in Taichung City, Taiwan, this 205-square-meter dwelling showcases a revolutionary approach to spatial organization through its distinctive rotatable door leaf system positioned at the foyer, serving as the primary conceptual focus of the design. The project, completed in June 2018 under the creative direction of architect Lulu Cheng, demonstrates exceptional versatility in space utilization through its transformative elements. The design's most notable feature is its ingenious system of overlapping door leaves at the entrance, which can be manipulated to create varying degrees of privacy and spatial separation. When the door leaves are closed at the entrance side, they provide privacy for the inner spaces, while complete closure of both leaves effectively isolates the living room, transforming it into a dedicated guest area. The design incorporates transparent sliding doors and blinds along the walkway, creating a subtle yet effective partition between guest and private areas. The thoughtful integration of the study and dining room establishes a central gathering space for family activities, emphasizing the design's focus on fostering familial connections. The project, which earned the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category in 2019, exemplifies excellence in material selection through its sophisticated use of wood veneer, solid wood, and stone, complemented by carefully considered landscape elements.
