OO House

OO House

OO House is an innovative residential renovation project in Taiwan that transformed a 40-year-old structure into a contemporary living space, earning recognition with a Silver A' Design Award in Interior Space Design. This 195-square-meter dwelling, situated within a narrow 6-meter alley, exemplifies sophisticated architectural solutions to urban spatial constraints. The design's most distinctive feature is its pioneering façade incorporating QR-code-inspired openings with glass brick elements, which ingeniously addresses both security concerns and natural lighting requirements common in traditional Taiwanese residential areas. The three-story structure employs a thoughtful material palette including Japanese cypress, solid wood, and formaldehyde-free bamboo carbon paint, demonstrating a commitment to sustainable and health-conscious design principles. The interior architecture is characterized by its intelligent space optimization, featuring magnetic glass board stair landings that double as creative surfaces, and strategically placed window openings between floors to enhance family interaction. Implemented using Building Information Modeling (BIM) technology, the project showcases an exemplary balance between functional efficiency and aesthetic refinement. The design philosophy prioritizes three key aspects: maximization of natural daylight, integration of natural materials, and optimization of circulation flow. Completed in October 2020 after a two-year development period, the project stands as a testament to innovative residential architecture that successfully addresses modern urban living challenges while maintaining aesthetic excellence and functional practicality.
