Octopia Table

Octopia Table

Octopia Table is an innovative and artistically crafted furniture piece that exemplifies the harmonious fusion of nature-inspired design and functional art. Designed by Swiss designer Eckhard Beger, this distinctive table draws its morphological inspiration from the organic form of an octopus, featuring a central ellipsoid body from which eight organically shaped elements radially extend - four serving as legs and four as supporting arms. The sophisticated structure employs molded wood layers with carbon fiber reinforcement, showcasing exceptional craftsmanship through its use of premium wood species and advanced manufacturing techniques. The table's distinctive aesthetic is enhanced by mirrored veneer covering the structure, while the central ellipsoid body features 3D veneer technology, creating a striking visual contrast between the wood surfaces and edges. A 12mm thick glass top, measuring 140 cm in diameter and standing at a height of 76 cm, allows unobstructed views of the intricate structural elements beneath. The design, which earned a Bronze A' Design Award in the Fine Arts and Art Installation Design category, represents a remarkable achievement in combining creative conceptualization with technical execution. The table's three-dimensional appearance and filigree structure required overcoming significant engineering challenges to achieve structural stability while maintaining its delicate aesthetic appeal. This piece exemplifies contemporary art furniture that transcends mere functionality, inviting viewers to discover new details and perspectives while reflecting on the intersection of nature and design.
