Oco Armchair

Oco Armchair

Oco Armchair is an innovative furniture design that exemplifies minimalist aesthetics and ergonomic functionality through its distinctive half-sphere shell construction. Created by Brazilian designer Mauricio Coelho, this contemporary seating solution features a striking fiberglass structure that forms a hollow sphere, from which its name is derived, providing both visual intrigue and practical comfort. The design's sophisticated engineering incorporates a carefully crafted upholstery system with high-quality foams and a strategic 12-kilogram metal profile in the backrest cushion to ensure optimal stability. The armchair's dimensions of 880mm in length, 880mm in width, and 720mm in height create proportional harmony, while its weight capacity exceeds 150 kilograms, demonstrating its robust construction. The piece showcases exceptional versatility in its finishing options, including natural wood veneer, lacquer, and electrostatic paint applications on both the fiberglass shell and laser-cut carbon steel feet. The development process involved multiple prototypes to perfect the complex lamination of the fiberglass half-sphere and achieve a seamless connection between the shell and support structure. This attention to detail and innovative approach to furniture design earned the Oco Armchair a Silver A' Design Award in the Furniture Design category, recognizing its contribution to contemporary furniture design through its combination of aesthetic simplicity, structural innovation, and functional excellence. The design's floating appearance and organic form create a compelling visual statement while maintaining its primary function as a comfortable seating solution, making it suitable for both residential and commercial interior spaces.
