Oat Wreath Equestrian Pavilion
Oat Wreath Equestrian Pavilion is an innovative architectural masterpiece designed by Polina Nozdracheva that harmoniously blends traditional equestrian functionality with contemporary sustainable design principles. Located within a protected cultural heritage area, this large-span structure distinguishes itself through its revolutionary approach to architectural transparency, featuring intricate wooden lace elements instead of conventional solid walls. The pavilion's most striking feature is its facade ornament, which presents a stylized rhythmic pattern reminiscent of wheat ears or oat, paying homage to the historical context of its location. The structure spans an impressive 1,585 square meters and accommodates up to 1,000 spectators across two levels of tribunes totaling 1,500 square meters. Its architectural ingenuity lies in the use of thin metal columns that seemingly invisibly support the glued wooden roof, which culminates in a distinctive horse's head silhouette. The pavilion houses a 20 x 60-meter parade ground and incorporates environmentally conscious, renewable materials throughout its construction. The ground floor features a spacious entrance with auxiliary facilities and tribune access, enhanced by an ornamental visor that doubles as a tribune balcony. This Silver A' Design Award-winning structure exemplifies sustainable architecture while serving as a vital venue for equestrian training, competitions, and various thematic programs throughout the year. The pavilion's design successfully addresses the challenge of constructing within a heritage site by creating a dematerialized volume that harmoniously integrates with the existing landscape, utilizing natural wood textures and innovative structural solutions to achieve both aesthetic excellence and functional efficiency.
