Nus Residential House

Nus Residential House

Nus Residential House is an innovative residential architectural project located in Crete, Greece, that exemplifies sustainable design principles and harmonious integration with the natural landscape. This environmentally conscious dwelling features a distinctive U-shaped configuration complemented by an underground guest house, strategically designed to maximize southeastern exposure and optimize solar gain throughout seasonal cycles. The 300-square-meter interior space, situated on a generous 4000-square-meter plot, incorporates sophisticated passive heating and cooling systems, including two thoughtfully designed solar spaces equipped with both fixed and rotating shading mechanisms, alongside a thermal mass wall. The residence's ecological footprint is minimized through the implementation of multiple sustainable technologies, including photovoltaic panels, solar water heaters, and a vertical geothermal system. The architectural composition emphasizes natural materials and employs various innovative features such as water surfaces on southern walls, a green roof system, controlled western light exposure, and a vertical ventilation shaft with precisely positioned northern openings. This Bronze A' Design Award-winning project in the Architecture, Building and Structure Design category demonstrates exceptional achievement in sustainable architecture, combining aesthetic sophistication with environmental responsibility. The design's commitment to energy efficiency is evident in its comprehensive approach to natural climate control, while its careful consideration of the Cretan landscape creates a seamless connection between built environment and natural surroundings, offering inhabitants unobstructed views of the pristine Mediterranean landscape.
