Nuanced Light Residential House

Nuanced Light Residential House

Nuanced Light Residential House is an exemplary residential interior design project that masterfully transforms a 1920s Art Deco villa through a sophisticated interplay of geometric patterns, light, and spatial composition. Encompassing 413 square meters, this innovative design by Joe Chen and Anthea Chien harmoniously blends Western aesthetics with Oriental equilibrium, featuring a distinctive arrangement of longitudinal and traversal sections that create a compelling visual narrative. The design's signature elements include diamond-shaped marble flooring at the entrance, which establishes a dialogue with the wall decorations, introducing the villa's theme of subdued luxury. The interior architecture demonstrates exceptional attention to detail through its implementation of repetitive geometric patterns inspired by New York's 1920s architectural motifs, incorporating metallic inlays within large panels of black, white, silver, and grey peripheral frames. The spatial organization is particularly noteworthy, with a thoughtfully designed corridor connecting the symmetrically arranged living and dining rooms, defined by striking black hexagonal woodblocks adorned with golden rims. The project, completed in 2018, showcases a sophisticated balance between functionality and aesthetics, particularly evident in the bedrooms where simplified linear elements accommodate storage needs while maintaining design coherence. The design earned recognition with an Iron A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, acknowledging its innovative approach to space utilization and material selection. The project's success lies in its ability to reinterpret Art Deco's mechanical repetition through a contemporary lens, creating spaces that serve modern lifestyle needs while preserving the grandeur associated with the historical architectural style.
