North Taoyuan Hakka Hall Cultural Center
North Taoyuan Hakka Hall Cultural Center is a significant cultural architectural achievement located in Taoyuan City, Taiwan, designed to serve and celebrate the region's substantial Hakka population of approximately 260,000 residents. This reinforced concrete two-story structure, spanning an impressive base area of 7,627.28 square meters, represents a harmonious blend of traditional Hakka cultural elements with modern architectural innovation. The facility encompasses multiple functional spaces, including a specialized Hakka concert hall featuring advanced acoustic engineering through a composite double-layer partition system for optimal sound control. The architectural design emphasizes sustainability and environmental consciousness, incorporating innovative water conservation methods through anti-subsidence construction and artificial site flower terraces. The center's distinctive design features two main buildings connected by a central platform and corridor, creating a multi-layered circular light-transmitting outdoor plaza that facilitates social interaction and cultural exchange. The interior space, covering 1,878.64 square meters, has been thoughtfully designed to accommodate various functions, including a Cultural Study Center that combines exhibition, teaching, and office spaces, alongside a versatile Concert Hall for performances and exhibitions. This architectural masterpiece, completed in May 2021, was recognized with a Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, acknowledging its exceptional contribution to cultural preservation and contemporary architectural design. The project demonstrates remarkable attention to environmental sustainability, featuring repurposed materials such as existing perforated plates transformed into an entrance observatory tower, while successfully creating a vital community hub that promotes cultural integration and preservation of Hakka heritage.
