Normcore at GreenCode Cinema is an innovative interior design project that exemplifies minimalist architectural principles while reimagining the traditional cinema experience. Created by designers Michael Tsang, Anthony Ho, and David Yu, this architectural intervention transforms a conventional movie theater foyer into a sophisticated space that celebrates simplicity and functionality. The design, which garnered recognition with an Iron A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, encompasses approximately 789 square meters and houses three cinema screens with a total capacity of 285 seats. The project's distinctive feature is its ingenious use of a pitched wooden ceiling, which creates a harmonious interplay between acoustics and aesthetics. This architectural element, characterized by its stripped texture contrasting against pristine white walls and tiled flooring, serves both functional and artistic purposes, enhancing the acoustic properties while establishing a compelling visual rhythm throughout the space. The decentralized foyer design deliberately opens towards the mall, fostering increased social interaction while maintaining operational efficiency. Completed between October 2015 and November 2016, the project embodies the philosophy of finding extraordinary beauty in basic elements, responding to contemporary cultural oversaturation by embracing understated elegance.
