Niwa Outdoor Furniture

Niwa Outdoor Furniture is an innovative outdoor seating solution that exemplifies minimalist design principles through its geometric simplicity and functional elegance. Created by Italian design firm Robby Cantarutti and Partners between January 2015 and February 2016, this die-cast aluminum chair draws inspiration from Japanese Zen gardens, incorporating parallel lines and elementary forms to achieve a balanced, sophisticated aesthetic. The design's distinctive characteristic lies in its formal simplification, where geometric precision meets practical functionality. The chair's construction features a pressified aluminum molding that serves as the primary structure, with mechanically fixed aluminum legs completing the robust framework. This manufacturing approach not only ensures durability for outdoor use but also streamlines the production process through innovative mold engineering. Measuring 45x45x80 centimeters, the chair successfully addresses the challenge of creating a completely die-cast aluminum piece while maintaining exceptional comfort levels. The name Niwa, meaning garden in Japanese, reflects the design's philosophical connection to the ordered simplicity of Zen garden aesthetics. The furniture piece garnered international recognition when it received the Platinum A' Design Award in the Furniture Design category in 2019, acknowledging its outstanding contribution to outdoor furniture design through its innovative use of materials, ergonomic comfort, and aesthetic appeal. The design's success lies in its ability to combine weather resistance with a futuristic form, making it particularly suitable for contemporary outdoor spaces while maintaining a timeless quality that transcends temporary design trends.
