Ning Mood Lighting

Ning Mood Lighting

Ning Mood Lighting is an innovative interactive illumination device that combines traditional spinning top mechanics with modern lighting technology, designed by Wei Peng Hung from Taiwan. This sophisticated mood lighting solution, which earned the Bronze A' Design Award in the Lighting Products and Fixtures Design category, embodies the Oriental concept of tranquility through its thoughtful design and functionality. The device, measuring 70mm x 70mm x 60mm, is crafted from recycled glass with a strong magnetic base made of recycled aluminum, incorporating electromagnet modules and LED lighting components. Its design draws inspiration from both the Turkish whirling dance and Mount Fuji, while its name Ning references peace and serenity in Chinese culture. The lighting mechanism activates through a unique spinning motion, creating a continuous illumination that persists until the rotation ceases, making it suitable for various environments including bars, rooms, and aircraft cabins. The design's philosophical underpinning reflects the delicate balance between human development and natural resources, symbolized through the physics principle of angular kinetic energy conservation. The development process involved extensive prototyping and careful consideration of material properties, particularly regarding glass thickness and density. This innovative approach to lighting design not only addresses contemporary stress-related emotional disorders through therapeutic interaction but also promotes environmental consciousness through its use of recycled materials and its symbolic representation of the human-nature relationship.
