Ning Collection Chairs Collection is an innovative furniture design series that reinterprets the classical Ming-style rounded-back armchair through a contemporary lens, created by designer Jong-Ron Lo. This sophisticated collection, which earned a Bronze A' Design Award in the Furniture Design category, comprises six distinct chair typologies that seamlessly blend Eastern aesthetic heritage with modern functionality. The collection's name Ning carries multiple meaningful connotations in Mandarin - representing an ancient family surname, the act of wishing, and a state of tranquility - while its design draws inspiration from both traditional Chinese furniture and the graceful curves of the female form. Each piece in the collection features a distinctive silhouette characterized by straight backs and round arms, creating an intermediary connection between human body contours and seating ergonomics. The chairs are meticulously crafted using CNC-machined ABS components and powder-coated metric steel tubes, demonstrating a sophisticated fusion of traditional aesthetics with contemporary manufacturing techniques. The collection's technical specifications showcase careful attention to ergonomic considerations, with dimensions optimized for comfort and functionality: 513mm in length, 600mm in width, and 790mm in height, with a seat height of 480mm. The design process, which spanned from June 2016 to September 2017, involved extensive research across historical, spatial, and hermeneutic perspectives, resulting in a versatile furniture collection that successfully adapts to various environmental contexts while preserving cultural heritage through innovative modular design solutions.
